More Meetings for Doctors Today - May 9, 2008

There will be more meetings today to try to resolve issues for oncologists and pathologists. Premier Danny Williams and Health Minister Ross Wiseman met with the doctors last evening in what both sides are calling productive discussions.  Wiseman says things like workload, resources and support staff were laid on the table and will be addressed on a priority basis. Williams is confident they can come up with a competitive solution to satisfy and stabilize the profession. Dr. Kara Lang says it was important for physicians to paint an accurate picture of the situation for government.

Meanwhile,  Williams says the public inquiry into hundreds of botched breast-cancer tests appears to be more of a ``prosecution'' than an inquiry. Williams, who is expected to testify at the inquiry, made the candid remarks after a meeting with oncologists and pathologists to discuss compensation and workload. The inquiry is looking into how nearly 400 breast-cancer patients were given the wrong results on their treatment tests.
