VOCM News has eight full-time and six part-time news people. These journalists provide news and information to VOCM's vast network of radio stations across Newfoundland and Labrador. There are newscasts on VOCM 24 hours a day. Our newroom is staffed 23 hours a day, seven days a week.

We have two 25-minute major newscasts and one 20-minute major newscast daily, seven days a week. And now, a one-hour daily news program at mid-day !

We have a newsperson on call for 'spot news' 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
 
The bottom line has been a commitment to the listener. VOCM believes its newsroom is the community. Give the listener everything, because they deserve it !

Terry Hart

Terry Hart loves news, keeping his finger in the news and information pie and Steele Communications' listeners informed. Terry specializes in business news and positive news stories. He currently does sales, news and community relations, including the Good News Report each morning on K-Rock 97.5 weekdays at 7.40AM, focusing on the positive news developments taking place throughout Newfoundland and Labrador. Terry began his career with CKCM in Grand Falls-Windsor, and has worked in just about all aspects of the radio industry. He has won numerous news and other awards, including the inaugural Broadcast News Award for News Excellence. Terry has also been recognized with Hospitality Newfoundland and Labrador's Ambassador Award for coverage of the tourism industry. He has covered his share of 'hard news' too, interviewing Cuban President Fidel Castro, among others.  Terry also has a passion for sports, and is a member of the Newfoundland Baseball Hall of Fame.




Bob Power, CHCM Marystown
Bob began his career in news with VOCM in St. John’s in 1966 and for the past four decades has been deeply involved in all aspects of reporting. He took over the position
as News Director at CHCM in Marystown in the late 60's and has been reporting
on events in communities along the south coast from Burgeo to Trepassey including the French Islands of St. Pierre et Miquelon ever since. One of his main duties is writing and editing the midday 12:30 News on CHCM . He has been recognized with awards of excellence locally, regionally and nationally.




 

Renell LeGrow
 
Renell grew up in the town of Bauline in Conception Bay. She attended high school in Torbay, and graduated from the College of the North Atlantic with a diploma in Journalism. She joined the VOCM News team in 2004 as a part-time news reporter. Renell is now the spot news reporter for VOCM, (and also the youngest reporter on staff). When not covering news conferences or reporting on fires and accidents, she can be found playing with her dog Reilly, or spending time with her family and friends.


  

Doug Learning
Doug was born in St. John's and has spent more than thirty years as a resident of Mount Pearl. He joined VOCM News in 1986 after completing a broadcasting course in St. John's and has been involved in all aspects of the news business through the years. Doug is responsible for reading newscasts on VOCM's network stations from Carbonear to Labrador and on K-Rock in St. John's weekday afternoons. In his spare time Doug enjoys spending time with friends, family, and his elderly cat and is an avid reader, and a music and movie buff.

 

 

Brian Madore
Brian first stepped behind a microphone in 1980 at CRXL in Halifax, the primary radio training school for Atlantic Canada at the time. He got into the biz on the Burin Peninsula with CKYQ and joined VOCM in 1984 following a radio stint in New Brunswick. He has served as editor of The Shoreline newspaper, and has been known to take his guitar and voice to a few folk festivals over the years.




Dale Fry
Born and raised in the mining town of Labrador City, Dale Fry joined the VOCM newsroom in October of 2000.  Dale graduated from Menihek High School in 1998 and went on to Loyalist College in Belleville, Ontario, earning a diploma in Broadcast Journalism in May of 2000. He is often referred to as the "Labrador representative" in the newsroom and also helps contribute to the sports department. Dale is currently studying to earn a Bachelor of Religious Education from Master's College and Seminary in Toronto via distance education. He is active in ministry volunteering his time to help with various youth events throughout the province and serves on the Youth Conference or "YC" committee as the public relations coordinator.  Dale is currently the touring commentator for the St. John's Fog Devils.


Audrey Whelan

Audrey Whelan graduated from Memorial University with a B.A. majoring in Political Science. She joined VOCM in 1994 and is the Assistant News Director.  Audrey produces and co-hosts Newfoundland and Labrador Today which airs at  1:30pm, Monday through Friday. Audrey is the afternoon anchor weekdays, on VOCM.








Candice Udle

Candice is one of the newer faces on the VOCM News Team! Born and raised in Mount Pearl, Candice joined VOCM in November of 2003.  She is one of our main spot news reporters, and primarily covers outside events.  Candice also reports on St.John's and Mount Pearl council weekly.  She graduated with honours from Lawrence College where she did the Photographic Studies diploma program. She enjoys different types of photography and keeps busy during wedding season. With her outgoing personality,Candice says she mostly enjoys hanging with her friends, watching reality TV (Apprentice, Survivor ) or going out for herbal tea.
