Novel :
idea: Correct the information. If they "increased" response times, it took longer to respond. So they actually "reduced" response times? Unless they actually did take longer to respons, of course.

Cougar is a private company,, who had a whip put to their arse after the 491 crash,, they are a business. The military are run by the government whose response times are slow in most departments and they are not a business and cant go bankrupt.

Government should have spent more money on search and rescue, rather than that fiasco in Afghanistan. The US is now headed for the edge of a financial cliff after spending billions and billions on two very unnecessary conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. It would be interesting to see how much our own Department of National Defence spent.Search and Rescue had to operate on nickels and dimes, while huge amounts of money was spent on conlicts that the majority of Canadians were opposed to.

I agree totally with your thoughts PF Dunderdale's refusal to release a stand-by chopper on the Gander tarmac just in case there was an emergency...even while Burton Winters was frezing to death...a mess for all of Canada following the story. Her excuse was there might be a real 'emergency'! How real does an EMERGENCY HAVE TO BE...a real emergency? Of course, we were all aware of Burton's degree of urgency...he froze to death! How does Dunderdale sleep at night; or not think of Burton when she looks at her own grand-children?

I agree totally PF Murphy..spot on! Didn't our bright light of a Premier do just that with Burton Winters...Premier held a rescue plane back in Gander, just in case there was a real emergency...while Burton Winters was freezing to death!

Cleary always astounds me by his enhanced brain cell capacity. Imagine, the second largest country in the world having a slower response time than some other countries. Pure genius. It is no wonder he complains he doesn't get paid enough.

Please, please...don't let Blunderdale near any decisions about Helicopter readiness. It really doesn't matter to her....remember...she decided to leave a functioning rescue copter on the tarmac in Gander in case of an emergency...rather than saving Burton Winters...in his final hours.

It's always easier to blame someone else. Weather, equipment serviceability, standard response times, numbers of personnel available to the Rescue Squadron all had a little to do with the response time. What about the family? Why was a kid allowed on a snowmobile by himself? Why was the kid on ice over ocean water by himself? Where were the parents?

The NDP criticizing the military? Surely you jest. The NDP are well known for their disdain for our Armed Forces and the brave folks that wear out countrys uniform.

P F Murphy :
Behind "many"countries? I thought the point was it lagged behind "most" countries and then if they thought there could be anything else, especially commercial, they'd keep their planes on the ground just in case and to heck with any lost kids out on the ice!

Cougar had no other choice,, it was under the microscope and its a private business. The military is funded by our money and govt officials..What do you think Right or wrong
