Wayne R Bennett :

It is regreatable that OCI has pitted one segment of the union against another segment of the union.

Maybe it is now time that the FFAW was broken up. FFAW cannot represent the harvester and the plant worker. There has to be two seperate unions.

The FFAW does have a legimate point: you cannot let a foregin trawler to catch a species so that it can be shipped offshore.

If the fish cannot be processed onshore because it can be done much cheaply offshore, what is sent overseas for processing must be caught by trawelers with our own crews.

I wonder what Coacker would think of this whole thing? It appears that the fishery is back in the same poor state as it was before Sir William came on the scene.

Companies getting the gold and the fisheries worker getting the shaft.

Mike :

The union represents workers, not rural NL. Kick 'em out.

Territory Of Labrador :

Pretty simple people, de-cerifity your union. Clearly they are not acting in your best interests.

Salary of FFAW leadership vs plant workers... :

so leaving the plant closed is not the death knell of the community?! Will someone please check the top salaries of $100,000+ of the FFAW staff on their respective doles for 20+ years, versus those of the plants workers who they are now opposing... what gives?

Roy :

Good to see these people have some guts, with the little i know it has been my opinion the theis union should be thrown out. They have no consideration for the fortune fish workers. Will the union pay wages to these people if the deal doesn't go ahead, i think not. It is also true that this ocean choice has put a gun to the heads of workers and govt. and should have to put money in fund up front if they should falter on their promises to these people. We all know what the Sullivans are, they have a master plan to fill their pockets at govt. and workers expense

Bob :

I understand the fustration of the Fortune workers but we cannot give away all of our resources to save a few jobs. Its time for us to look at the bigger picture and stop putting one community against the other. OCI cannot be trusted and I am sure that there is fine print in this agreement so that they can walk away from Fortune after a couple of years leaving them out of work like everyone else.

Earl Gotta Go :

If workers in the fishing industry dont get rid of the FFAW and particularly Earl McCurdy they will never have anything !!
Earl ruined the Marystown plant and is now doing the same thing for Fortune!!

Way to go FFAW!!! :

I hope the FFAW holds firm on this decision. The future of the Nl. fishery depends on this. We cannot allow anything to be exported without processing. We cannot be allowed to be bribed for a few jobs that is not worth the loss in the big picture of our industry. It would be the beginning of the end. I hope Fortune realizes this and understands that it can't be allowed to happe.

Darrell :

They represent the people ha what a joke with a failing industry 110 jobs is better then a kick in the arse. I'd say get rid of your union and get someone who you can trust Earl is past due to be canned.
