Delaying the light would be safer but completely removing the crosswalk between Avalon Apts and the corner of Tim Hortons would be safest. Some drivers are too impatient at the light at Mt Scio, they often slam on the brakes or cut in front of pedestrians narrowly missing them. It isn't fair that some people do not obey traffic laws. Pedestrians would have to cross Thorburn and then Mt. Scio rd , it would take an extra minute but it would be a lot safer. Also , if they built a merge lane for traffic turning right from Mt. Scio on to thorburn rd it would be safer again.

Craig :
I have NO problem stopping for any one that is on a crosswalk, but I do have a problem stopping for any one that is not. All you have to do is drive out of the Health Science Center between 3PM-4PM to see theses people that expect you to stop for them because they are crossing the road but not on a crosswalk. That is what they were put there for. If they were not there the public would be outraged. Also, drive up or down the road on back of the Avalon Mall, and see how many people are trying to cross a four lane road NOT using the crosswalk. Hit one of these people and YOU are at fault. If putting your life at risk is so important that you can not walk the extra 5-10 minutes to get to a crosswalk, than don't put my nerves at risk because you are to lazy or stupid.

Betty :
There are already 4 crosswalks within approximately 1 km on that stretch of Thorburn Road. The majority of the accidents there are because people are too lazy to walk the few feet to a crosswalk! How about putting some crosswalks in other high traffic areas? I have to walk my daughter to daycare and we have to cross both Blackmarsh Road and Captain Whelan Drive during peak traffic times, and there are no crosswalks at all! Talk about taking your life in your hands...and this with a 4 year old, where I'm trying to teach her not to cross a street unless she's on a crosswalk

Sean :
It would be nice for cars to a actually stop at the lights, and not drive and park an inch from the crosswalk. I walked that cross walk everyday, and Some driver would always turn down thorburn off of Scio and park / beep their horn at the crosswalk

Response to Stupid :
10 stars on that comment. truely my heart & thoughts go out to the victim & family but seriously people... ain't that couple extra minutes it takes to cross at a crosswalk worth a long, healthy life? I agree 110%.

Stupid :
This comes from plain stupidity. I mean no offence to the young girl who was killed or her family, but it even states that she was "near" the Mount Scio Intersection. I believe that it was actually pretty much between both crosswalks that she was struck. People these days are so ridiculously stupid that they think that because they are a pedestrian they can cross the street anywhere they like. Thorburn Road is 4 and 5 lanes of traffic in that area. Its insane to cross not at a crosswalk. I feel bad, because for the sake of a couple of minutes to walk in either direction, she could have used a crosswalk and still be alive today. Use your heads people!! We don't need more crosswalks in that area, we just need people to be smarter! Sadly, I'm sure these tragedies will continue to happen because people are too lazy to take anything but the direct route they believe they are entitled to as a pedestrian...
