What's this crap about low prices ... I find it hard to believe that NL cannot compete on the world market ... just look at this: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-19318000

Good to see minister of fisheries trying to promote the return of a traditional cod fishery. It's unbelievable these are the people elected to look after newfoundlanders best interests.Cod will be very important to Newfoundland again Mr.King.Wake up and start saying and doing the right things for the fishery.

Uptownceaser :

It took over 20 years for the fish to start rebounding from mismanagement and overfishing so let the stocks FULLY recover.

The unions only care about their own pockets and not the cod stocks or any other ocean stock that we fish.

While the cod does appear to have come back in some areas of the province, we still have to be careful. It won't take long to deplete if we don't do this right!
Plus i agree that not alot of fishermen will go back to fishing cod...the money just isn't there.
Some people still think that the cod fishery is going to save all the rural towns...have to be realistic, this is not going to happen.
Just go ask most of the people who fished before the moratorium...i bet not 10% would want to go back to those days.
So while i agree that yes we might be able to increase the cod quota in some areas of the province, it will not be the saviour.
Remember...crab and shrimp are kings now, we need to learn how to keep these species lucrative.

Sold out :

Ye fisherman have been bamboozeled out of your fishing rights. Like many other nld"ers you have been sucked in. The consevatives got ye all licking there chin and you guys are drouling with your tounges hanging.
This government has been chewing away your rights for the past 20 years. You dont have anyone that can help you change that. They don't want to deal with it. they sooner sell of the rights to forign countries in exchange for good forign relationships. The fish is worth more to canada in these essues than the actual profits gained by the government from its sales. Not good for fisherman but better for canadian intrest overseas. Its worth billions to them and they took it away from you. Dont feel bad its for your country. All your going to get from these school boys is well writen essa on playing games and 20 more year of red tape of whats good for the fishery. They can't give back what they sold ye out for. Its a federal thing not NL thing.
