People didn't just refuse to get involved due to fear! The people in this province have been turned into cold, selfish people. This is no longer a province filled with love. The government has made it a province filled with envy and hatred and have turned people on one another!

Sam :
bottom line is we need tougher jail time and more long term rehab. MOST crimes are drug related, its a sin that there are so many people messed up

Screener :
People are not stupid in this province as some mainlanders would like others to believe. People didnt stop to help because they dont want to get involved in crime related activities, as I am sure this probably is.People just dont attack people for no reason unless drugs or other related crime are involved( they knew each other). Downtown is not fit to visit and we bring tourists down there. Way to go downtown

Carl :
I lost all hope in this province when my wife was 8 months pregnant and fell while walking to the metrobus at the village. Someone stepped on her hand while she was down and another stepped over her to get on the bus. NOBODY helped her up. I left work and took her to hospital and thank God no injuries to the baby.
Nobody in this province whats to get involved, unlike years ago when everyone would help anyone out.
It's becoming a very sad province to live.

S :
Downtown St John's has gone to the dogs!!! maybe the police should start getting some of the hookers off the streets down there....All you have to do is drive by and you can pick them out...so the police patrolling down there got to know who's who!!! GROSS!!!

...... :
They forgot to mention one of the attackers spit in the officers face...stay classy St. John's!

Every day the news is blasted with crime that has happened in our city. We need more foot patrol indeed.

Me :
The offenders will get a slap on the wrist and some house arrest to watch TV. What a joke!! Punishment will not fit the crime.

Probably never told mom why! :
Mom probably stepped up because baby girl didn't tell her what she done to provoke this attack. It's so sad to have people who are so stun that they think physical force is the answer to their problems. I don't care what you do to me I don't think I would revert to physical force to retaliate, especially with an extra person in tow. That's just not fair!

Mommy's Boy :
Why is the mother of a 37 year-old woman speaking on her behalf? If it's such a big deal, why doesn't the "victim" act her age and speak for herself?

Sure Ya Knows :
I bet drugs were involved. They all knew each other thats a given

Skeets: :
a person was attacked, whatever the reason isn't for us to guess at.downtown is the slums of this province and people living here know that.water street is littered with bums who spend all day looking for handouts, instead of finding something to do to make a little money.drugs?yes, downtown is the place to go for that too.drug houses are busted one day,on the go again the next day.cabot st is a prime example.instead of coffee and donuts mr policeman, get out there and fix all the obvious problems that the rest of the city can see.hope the lady is ok.

Seriously? :
well "Really" not every single crime in this city is reported to the public. In this city I see cops arresting people all the time and it never makes the news! And as for being skeptical because its random? are you people serious? My Niece was RANDOMLY stabbed on her way to work in the morning on a main road. A man was just RANDOMLY stabbed downtown in the daytime in a park..so its not that hard to believe that this happened. This place is scary now..sad but true!I hope the lady is okay and can get through this. This type of crime can scar a person for life!

The world is afraid of it's own self! :
To the person who fought with your friend: was it appropriate to be carrying on in a fashion that could lead to a brawl? Some people think that they are harmlessly picking at another but in all truth it was very hurtful. While a beating most definitely isn't condoned, maybe people should be careful about their own actions before assuming it was the person who laid the beating's fault. Were they instigated or provoked??
I think this story is definitely fabricated for pity, no doubt it happened but it was more than likely some drug scheme gone bad or personal fight brought out into the public for no good reason. Definitely provoked in some way. Yes someone should have stepped in to help, but these people shouldn't have been fighting in the first place. What happened to being ladies and gentleman? What ever was done to instigate this fight should have been dealt with sensibly not out in public. But one definite point it does highlight is the pitiful people we have walking the streets of our towns and cities! People are afraid of their own shadows and would rather see someone get killed then help. Would it hurt to lend a helping hand here and there?
And as for all the cars going by and not helping that poor girl with the flat tire, I would be upset too. In the very least someone could have stopped for company or to shine their car lights for you to put on the new tire. But you really can't even trust someone stopping to help these days!
There is no doubt what this world is coming too. You can't even trust your own neighbours! And the once nice people are turned nasty just like the rest of the world.

Linny :
Whatever went on there...violence is never acceptable..whatever anyones frame of mind. How proud they must be of themselves with handcuffs on...hopefully they'll get a new suit to tie it all together..new meaning to fashion forward!

Silly Willy :
Downtown St John's is a mess
Beggars, bums and the stench around george street is sad.
Time for RNC foot patrol again

Really :
I'm not saying that this story is fabricated, but why haven't we heard about this attack from the police? If this is true, it's pretty bold and not a good reflection of what this city usually stands for. Until this story is corroborated, I'm skeptical.

Someone :
It's a Shame, For you to say she did something to spark the attack is unfair. I too was assaulted severely by a friend.. and we were laughing and joking just before the attack. I hope they catch who did this... It is happening way too often, maybe time to put the cameras in other spots so these people get caught, I know it won't stop it from happening but it could help catch some of these people. And also maybe the people passing you didn't know how to change a flat tire either, you can't say the whole province is not friendly cause a few people passed you on the road.

Crazy indeed!! :
Where would one move if their faith in mankind has diminished? That lady is right, it could very well have been sparked by ill actions. No good to sugar coat what is probably the truth. It is a very strange and random act indeed and I hope that it isn't repeated anytime soon, but the way drugs and crime are growing in our province there is very little hope for those who are caught in the cross fire. Or those who are being unfairly targeted. It's hard to run away from that too! And if you started it, well there is no sympathy from me! But I can say that I do not agree with forceful actions, all matters can be dealt with in a fair and mature manner. I feel terrible that this happened and I hope that the lady recovers 100%, I also hope that this wasn't caused by something ridiculous like drugs or personal problems. If so, I have no sympathy, only pity for those who are struggling inside.

Probably drug related! :
This is probably drug related like all of the other crazy random crimes in our town! People are crazy these days, they would rather take an over the top approach and take matters into their own hands then to be mature and diplomatic and seek help from the authorities. I hope that they let the public know what was done to spark this attack. I am willing to bet it is either over a lover or drug related. We need to get these crack heads off our streets and implement something to help the public to trust our authorities more.

Just a random attack at 11 a.m. on G St? That's very odd indeed.....

Hercules :
It's a shame: I enjoyed reading your comment until I got to the last paragraph...then your true colours came out. Why say ...whatever she did, you are implying something that you have no knowledge of and nor do I, leave it to the authorities. Get over your flat tire...time to move on or move out.

It's a shame :
I am so very sorry that this happened, and is happening more often in our beautiful province.
I have noticed that many people are not quick to help another these days. I waited on the side of the road in a small town on the south coast for 2 hours with a flat tire and my emergency lights on and counted 46 vehicles pass me by without so much as holding up their hand. I am a very petite woman and I would like to think that I don't look like a threat to anyone, but no one would stop!! I had to change it myself, which wouldn't have been a problem except that it was dark and there was a coyote that kept coming close. Very hard on the nerves.
That situation has changed my opinion about our friendly residents permanently, and has given me the incentive to make sure everyone I know knows how to change a flat tire!! And I stop to help anyone who seems to be in distress because I can honestly put my self in their shoes and be more empathetic now.
Not a life threatening event I know, but my goodness what has this province came to? People don't want to help anyone because they are afraid of implication or being labeled. Even when somebody's life is threatened it is hard to get a helping hand.
I hope this lady can find it in her heart to forgive those who she shares her town with for not helping her, and that whatever she did, if anything, to spark this event doesn't get repeated. Hopefully it wasn't through ill activities or actions..
