Could have been more of a tragedy..thank God the father was watchful..for the people who condem..seriously kids love to play in the cars..especially when bored..and if you can sit there and bash the dad..then you need a wake up call..he cared enough to hold on..some dads..would just let them go..or let their kids play in the street..or stand on the side lines while their kids do whatever they want..Seriously you aren't perfect if you are you have never had kids..either that or your Jesus..so seriously get out of your house go volunteer with kids..or something..and stop complaining about everyone else's..

SheldonTwo :

This must have been that fathers worst nightmare.
Glad to ehar the kids are safe.
why are people focusing on his parenting skills? there are a lot more worse parents out there. I can remember playing in the front seat of my parents car, it was always fun.

I'm glad to hear that the kids are okay and that the car didn't crash into other people. Hopefully the father makes a quick and full recovery. I also think it is amazing that the father managed to hang on for as long as he did.

Hopefully this teaches a lesson to other people that your children shouldn't be playing in the front seat of a car. If you are waiting for someone and you want to let your kids play before you strap them in, they can play in the backseat where it is safer.

A friend :

i know the kids. they get in through a front door and climb to the back. They are kids! the young one locked the door by accident and the young one also hit the gear. This father is a hero, so just get over it

Joe it all :

IF the father was putting the kids in the car and waiting for the mother they should have been in their car seats in the BACK and not in the front with the father not even in the car. No excuse works with this one!

Anon :

No ignorance.. just clearly why would you have 2 kids playing in the front seat of a car which can be switched in to gear...

I'm sure the parent didn't mean for it to happen and did everything he could to help them... just a bit more caution could be used to prevent this from even happening in the first place.

The truth.... :

im happy to see that portions of the real report are now on the website.... there are still peices missing but that helps to show that the parent wasnt neglecting his children but in fact it was a fluke accident... and as for the above comments.. put yourself in someone elses shoes, dont you think that this was punishment enough aside from your ignorance......

Anon :

Why are you people defending the parent here.

I get it, he probably loves his kids a lot and wanted to save them when the car was rolling away like any of us would.. But i think we aren't looking at the fact of why were these kids playing inside a vehicle in the first place?

Vehicles aren't a good spot to sit your kids down in to play for SO MANY REASONS. This being just one!

Davo :

I understand that the children are safe and sound and thats great but really, this could have been a very tragic accident and could have killed others because of the parent's total negligence and lack of common sense.

For the record..... :

soooooooooooo...... it just goes to show that people should keep there ignorant comments to themselves, as you can all see by "the friend of the family" comment, the father was also injured was holding on to the side of the vechile for the whole ordeal... anyone who has childen things happen so quickly, im sure that if this could have been prevented it would have been, lord knows that the father certainly tried risking his life to help his loved ones...............just sayin!

RobRoy, unless it's a Standard...

Nasty :

if you do not know the whole story then comments should not be made, dont you think that this family has suffered enough throughout this ordeal....all people should be saying is THANK GOD, those 2 little children are safe and sound.... things could have been a lot worse......

Gen :

Cars are not toys and should never be played in by kids! I am glad to hear the children are fine, but to think of what could have happened over such carelessness of the parent. Lesson learned.

Local bistander :

i thought that in order to take a car out of gear the brake peddle had to be pushed down................ children that size being able to do that when both were on the seat at the same time....something wrong with the vechicle i think....

Friend of the family :

What the story does not disclose are the significant injuries that the father sustained during this. His heroic efforts were not disclosed to the public and the fact that he was close enough to his children and the vehicle that he actually held on to the vehicle for approximately 200 ft,. before letting go before the collision occured. The whole story should have been told so the public could get an accurate report of what actually happened and could make their comments based on the facts!!!!

Darrell :

Under supervision, just my opinion but i would think if the father was anywhere near the children when the car first moved and went out of gear he would have been able to run and get in the car and put it back in gear. Sounds like he was no where near the car when this incident happened.

Natasha :

When will people learn?! Vehicles are not to be played in, children are not to be left unattended inside, even under 'supervision'!

And to RobRoy, this car may not be new. I had a 10 year old Mazda up until last year and I could put that car in gear without the key in the ignition, all I had to do was press the brake!

Me :

When are people going to learn that vehicles are NOT toys! If this parent is letting his children play in a vehicle, what other dangerous things is he letting them play with?

ROBROY :

I THOUGHT THE CARS THESE DAYS HAD TO HAVE A KEY TURNED AHEAD INORDER TO CHANGE G
EARS

A Car Guy :

Great example of why you should always use your parking brake.
