Derrick :

It's a testament to our resourcefulness.
More like the generosity of main land EI
tax payers who have never collected.
This industries prime goal is to collect EI
fish is a by-product. Please Mr. Harper end
this situation now, so the EI tax can be lowered for full time workers.

I agree with Don. However, I'm amazed that Mr. Mucurdy didn't even mention the seals as a reason why the cod stocks have not recovered. I'm not involved with the fishery, but I've heard so much over the years, and I also believe that the the explosion in the seal population over the last 20 years is definately a factor in the cod recovery. Also, what about the method oused for cod fishing, especially the dragers. I don't think you have to be a scincest, but when you have a way of fishing that destroys everything in it's path including the cod fishe's sponning grounds, then it's got to have an effect on the cod stocks.
Just a train of tought, is it possible that with a lot of the sponning grounds distroyed, the cod may have re-located to other areas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Never bite the hand that feeds you; what would you expect McCurdy to say! If (no longer a bid if)there were no fishers and plant workers there would be no need for McCurdy. Those of us who have read the 1st few lines of our history know full well there were not many years of plenty of fish. And when there were it just seemed to coincide with low prices; funny about that! Anybody who thinks 'fish merchants' are ghosts of the past should be used for lobster bait!

Don :

Did we learn anything ??? Apparently not. The shrimp is currently being over fished , the crab is currently being over fished and both will so go the way of the cod and the FFAW and the fishermen will complaining about how everybody is at fault and the government owes them a living .I have no sympathy for any of them. Fishermen are just to greedy to learn.
